Non-Prescription Treatment Found to Significantly Reduce Interstitial Cystitis Pain and Symptoms

CystoProtek® Shown to Improve Global Symptoms by an Average of 50 Percent

February 28, 2009, Marietta, GA – CystoProtek (www.cysto-protek.com), a non-prescription natural oral dietary supplement sold by Alaven Consumer Healthcare, Inc. (ACH), has been demonstrated to relieve clinical symptoms associated with Interstitial Cystitis (IC) by an average of 50 percent.

The most recent issue of the Canadian Journal of Urology reported the results of an open label study conducted by Tufts University researchers, which followed six groups of men and women all suffering from IC that had previously been unresponsive to other oral and intravesical (IV) treatments. The study determined that while being treated twice a day with CystoProtek (two capsules each time) for at least three months, patients (either men or women) in the most severe group saw a 52.1% reduction in symptoms, the less symptomatic group saw a 43.5% decrease and 17.4% achieved complete remission.

“ACH is focused on improving women’s health by developing and marketing the highest quality products,” said David Swenson, General Manager for ACH. “We are very pleased that this study has proven CystoProtek can be so helpful in reducing symptoms, for both men and women, and is especially helpful for those women who suffer from the most severe symptoms. Given that CystoProtek is an available without a prescription, we believe that it has the promise to make an immediate widespread and impact.”

Often diagnosed by exclusion, IC is a painful bladder syndrome with unknown cause that is associated with recurring discomfort or pain in the bladder and surrounding pelvic region, frequent urination to relieve discomfort and nocturia. While symptoms vary between individuals, the disease can cause serious disability and leave sufferers with chronic pelvic pain and poor quality of life. Because CystoProtek is available without a prescription, this study and its results are an important milestone in successfully providing symptom relief and improving the lives of the thousands of men and women who suffer from this condition.

CystoProtek’s natural anti-inflammatory formula works to reduce symptoms and pain, while simultaneously helping to replenish the bladder’s protective layer using its own natural ingredients, called glycosaminoglycans (GAGs).  Exclusively sold in the United States by ACH, CystoProtek is the result of years of research into IC by Theoharis Theoharides, PhD, MD, a professor of Pharmacology, Internal Medicine and Biochemistry and Director of the Molecular Immunopharmacology and Drug Discovery Laboratory at Tufts University in Boston, MA, and his colleague,Urologist Grannum Sant, MD. CystoProtek is trademarked and covered by three U.S. patents.

“After 20 years of studying IC, it is both exciting and gratifying to see evidence from years of basic and clinical research translate into a natural, safe and effective formulation that reduces bladder inflammation while replenishing the protective bladder layer with its own building blocks,” said Dr. Theoharides, PhD, MD.

“The grateful comments of so many desperate patients drives us to continue our research for a possible cure.”
